Reader’s Question:

I’m shopping for car insurance rates and I heard that there are so many available discounts that car insurance companies are offering. My cousin told me that I need to specifically ask for those discounts to see if I qualified for those. Can you give me some idea on what discounts I should look for? I live in Billings, Montana if that would help.

Your cousin is right. In general, auto insurance companies offer different discounts which could save you a lot of money. If you shop around for car insurance rates, be sure that you ask for the following discounts:

Good Driver: No accidents or violations for a period of 3 years;

Senior: If you are between 50 to 55 years old;

Traffic Schools: If you have attended defensive or driving courses;

Student: If you are a good student or a college student who is away from home;

Car Safety Features: If your vehicle is installed with car safety features like airbags, anti-theft devices etc;

Membership: If you are a member of certain organizations, some insurers this to particular organizations;

Low Annual Mileage: If you drive less; and

Multiple Cars: If you insured multiple cars under the same car insurance company.

Car insurers are not obligated to offer those discounts. So you need to make sure first if it’s being offered by the car insurance company. Since you are shopping for car insurance rates, then you could use the websites for available car insurance premium in Billings, Montana.
