Reader’s Question:
I have a poor driving record and I’m having a hard time finding car insurance company here in Fargo, North Dakota. I think this is because I am considered a high risk driver. I’ve tried shopping around for car insurance companies to no avail. What should I do?

I know where you are coming from. I also have a friend in Fargo, North Dakota who was once in your position. He was not able to get policy from insurance companies. So what his insurance agent did was helped him applied to Assigned Risk Plan. So what is an Assign Risk plan?
If a person cannot get his or her auto insurance from regular insurance companies, that person can apply to North Dakota Automobile Insurance Plan, a state-supervised insurance plan. It is also called as Assigned Risk Plan. This is created to offer means to drivers for them to purchase and meet the sate-mandated insurance polices.
To qualify for this plan you must be:
- A North Dakota resident;
- Have a registered vehicle in North Dakota;
- Have a drivers license (valid and current) from North Dakota; and
- For the last year (or 12 months) have no unpaid car insurance premium.
This is a very expensive plan and is only considered as the last resort by many. Try shopping around first through websites to find if you can get insurance companies in Fargo, North Dakota. If you have tried and exhausted all ways, then ask your insurance agent to help you get this plan.
