High Risk Driver SR22 Car Insurance Coverage
Reader’s Question:
I am required to obtain SR22 insurance. Do I get it with my current car insurance company or should I find another company to file the SR22?

In case your present insurer can file the SR-22 form for you, after making sure you’ve a minimum of the types of insurance and limits that the state is mandating of you, then it will typically be simpler for you to maintain a similar insurance provider as you currently have.
If instead your present insurer will not file the SR-22 for you then you will have to look for a different car insurance company which does handle “high risk car insurance” and will submit the SR22 certificate to the appropriate state agency for you.
Your current insurance plan may be unable to be kept if your present insurer doesn’t file SR-22 forms for policyholders. If they don’t work with SR22s then you will have to get insurance coverage with an insurer that does SR22 filing and then terminate your present insurance plan once another car insurance is in place.
